the whys of never saying never

 digital knitting

yesterday's weaving was going well albeit boring. my mind started pondering what ifs and i changed the treadling  somewhat making it more open and lacy- photos tomorrow.
once my mind starts on a what if mode it  becomes difficult to set limits.
in short: i had refrained from joining ravelry until yesterday because i  already was in too many communities. but somehow looking for instructions on a knitting pattern i came upon the  ravelry portal and without doing much thinking i clicked the enticing join button.

my intention is not to go the handknitting route the basics of which i learned while living in italy, thus knowing how to knit ony in italian. i intend joining one of the machine knitting groups and see if i can forward my skills.
meanwhile knitting digitally with fractals.
however, no, i won't join neither tweeter nor pinterest.

amusements

 gold

bored stiff after threading, tieing on etc etc.it's a good thing weaving is my passion because setting the loom is not a chore to get passionate about.
i spent time during the weekend generating fractal images for my amusement. the one above was particularly successful and led to various what iffings.

fractals animation neki desu

like this animation for example. sorry, it was huge and had to compress it with a great deal of loss of quality. but you get the idea don't you? also wanted a transparent background, but was unable to work it out (>x<)

the image was generated in apophisys 7 worked in kaleider and recorded as avi and translated into gif with animation shop.
it was furthermore printed on lutradur for a t textile treatment which is still not too clear.

there were other amusements as vero was in town and we went for a drink. or two.while trying to avoid any place with a tv set because there was a big barça madrid match . i even got to see the dress in person and it's prettier than in the photo.amandine, her daughter,  is a great help too (^_^)

and to round out the amusement. strange country this where i live. instead of easter bunnies they have easter monkeys! mona is the name of a traditional easter cake, but the word mona also means female monkey (^_^) the pastry shops are displaying all their creations and it is  a sight to behold.

do did doing

hirakami  and chinese silk

sounds like a philadelphia soul  song. the murasakizome  dye is done. still have a jar steeping in alcohol, but i'm done for now.pleased with the results and they will all blend beautifully together in a warp for a summer top.
the winter top weaving is progressing at a painful pace, with some major incidents that have forced me to take a break from it. or else it would become an offering to the sacrificial pyre.

and now for the present progressive.

shibori
painting kakishibu on the previously akane dyed wool scarf. the weather has changed and it's cold and cloudy. as a result this will be an enterprise because the kakishibu needs to cure in the sunlight. i may add sodium bicarbonate to pump up the color a bit, but i'm waiting for the weather to give me a break.

but not all has been so blah this weekend. actually i was pretty excited about a find regarding fractals and flame generating programs.i found and downloaded  the mega apophisis7x. and spent all weekend poking around it, downloading tutorials and resisting the temptation to join yet another on line community and forum.the program is a wonderful design source and a resource when the rut happens .
i suggest that you download the 2.09 version first from here. it has some things that you will need to run the 7x version. i'm learning a lot about computer arcana via this program.

i really  want to start printing a couple of fractals on fabric.the fractals are very textiley unlike the ones you see around full of gnarls and bubbles.
and they can also be animated. another project coming up.
pray thee tell me why oh why life's so short?

shibui top

draft-clothview
i think i'm settling for this draft. will have to throw a couple of picks in madder and indigo dyed silks just to make sure. but most likely i'll go with the walnut dyed silk as weft. so shibui .which is exactly what i want. something mottled and  understated that i can wear without getting tired. that's for the look.

for technicalities i have been working with this fractal image
persian carpetstraight from the batch, but then chopping it, resizing transforming the color, dithering it and finally adding an overlay in twill and plain weave. it may still go through changes, but i needed to get off the computer.if changes happen they will be dealt with after the weaving starts.

the sett will be somewhat loose, but it will be stabilized in the wet finish. better to start on the open side so as not to end up with cardboard.
have already started sleying the dummy warp. not wasting more than the necessary of that precious merino wool.

multi tasking

Still indigo dyeing and more excited about it after i found this web page. There's the reason to keep trying to get command of the fermentation vat. Nevertheless that will have to wait for next summer.
But right now between dips there are lots of things to take care of,the rush before Japanese classes begins is alive and kicking badly. There's still something on the loom that hasn't been tended for a while. That one also has to be finished. Some ATCs in different stages have to be pushed. And designing.

Don't know if this one will ever make it to fabric either digi printed or dyed and worked on. But i liked the way it turned out, so here it is. The colors are fractal images with layers and layers of textures. It reminds me of Shinjuku in Tokyo.

a little help from cyberfairies

Yesterday i was enjoying some surfing time when i discovered
the 3 minute egg
It's an excellent resource for when one gets stuck and needs the proverbial kick in the butt. After this, i think, there are less if not no excuses for creative block.
Enjoy.

BTW no post without image. This one is a fractal kanoko shibori!

the gift of time

With time, finally, in my hands some of it will be devoted to clearing UFOs.
This is the first installment. Silk organza digitally printed with a fractal image and then embellished with some stamping and stitching. i have some doubts about it though.

TAST 16- what's the name of this cutie?

It was such fun to work this Palestrina stitch! And it came out so cute. You can start on one side making a curve and at some point change the stems to the other side without looking sloppy. Love the effect because it's so fractal like.
i used tow linen- great txture but difficult to work with because it frays. Same for chenille. i also worked with silk, silk doupioni, wool and used red rayon for spunk.
This stitch will definitely go on my faves list.

kindness on the web

Thanks to all who visited and left suggestions for my uploading woes.
Let's see how it works out today.
After so much stitching i had to get back to weaving and it is going along well, albeit having spent a small sum on hairspray to control the sticky warp from Hades.
Needed some recreation so i visitedJudy's blog where she has a thought provoking post -Reading Linda Nochlin -about women and the arts.
Also stopped by SharonB's Mindtracks blog which i found very informative. Having come across the video last Tuesday it was interesting to find out the source.
Her post about knowing your blogging audience also gave me some things to think about. Will have to think and phrase the questions i came up with.

About today's image. It's a composite of a fractal image on the background a tesselation forming a textile pattern and an image i found on a Japanese website. And a lot of Photoshop.
All fun and games chilling out a bit in front of the computer.
